Arbutus & Stone is a small jewellery shop run from the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Everything here has been chosen by hand, one piece at a time, most of it from estate sales and house clearances up and down the Island.

Some of it is fine, some of it is costume, and a lot of it sits happily in between. What the pieces have in common is that each one caught our eye: a stone with unusual colour, a clasp that still works after fifty years, a brooch that somebody clearly loved. We clean and check every piece before it goes up for sale, and we describe it as it is, including any wear.

Two ways to shop

Individual pieces are exactly that: rings, earrings, pendants, brooches and bracelets, photographed and listed one at a time. Most are between $10 and $40.

Assorted jars are for the makers, menders and treasure hunters. Each jar is a mixed lot of chains, beads, single earrings and odds and ends from estate collections, sold as-is. They are a good source of parts for repairs and craft projects, and half the fun is the sorting.

The name

The arbutus is the twisting red-barked tree that grows along the rocky shorelines here, and stone is what most of the jewellery is built around. Between them they say where we are and what we do.
